Core Fusion Masterclass

WHAT ARE THE CORE & CORE STRENGTH?

The "core" is the torso, extending from the shoulders to the pelvis. It is the body's centre of power, which is why exercise specialists will often refer to it as “the powerhouse”. When we refer to core strength, it is the intrinsic muscles that lie deep within the torso. These muscles attach to the spine and pelvis and include the transversus abdominis, and the muscles of the pelvic floor in the lower portion of the torso and the latissimus dorsi and obliques in the middle and upper torso. Many experts also include the muscles that surround the scapula (shoulder blades) as key core muscles because of their stabilising role of the shoulder complex.

Movement power and stability originate in your core. In addition to being the source of powerful, centred movement, the core muscles also provide a strong base of stability. The muscles of the core hold the body stable and balanced, whether it is stationary or in dynamic motion and a strong core means a more efficient, functional, powerful & better performing body.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THIS MASTERCLASS?

Virginie will take you on a journey from learning how to engage your core muscles properly on their own to firing your “powerhouse” accordingly when moving your whole body. We will look at a progression of core exercises from mat work to unstable surfaces and added resistance, from stationary to dynamic, fusing core exercises with full body conditioning and drawing on various movement disciplines that Virginie has trained in and tried & tested over the years.

Virginie’s aim is to invite you progressively and safely to get out of your comfort zone, finding & pushing your own limits, connecting with and strengthening your body on a deeper level with emphasis on breath, mindfulness, while still having fun!

ALL WELCOME! No experience of core training is required and all levels of strength & fitness are welcome as all exercises will be broken down into increasing levels of difficulty, allowing each attendee to work at a level that suits her/him. It is however preferable to be injury free; Please contact Virginie prior to booking if you currently suffer from any health/physiological conditions to check wether this workshop is suitable for you.

Cost: £30.00/ £25.00 early bird (end date 31st March )

SPRING Yoga And Core Rural Day Retreat- Rejuvenate and Bloom FULL (Waiting List Only)

Join Virginie on a Rural Day Retreat in Woolley, near Bath. Spring is a time to cleanse and rejuvenate as well as a time to be creative and playful; longer days and usually finer, warmer weather makes us want to lift and open up. During our morning meditation, we will practice ‘open presence’ then use our guided morning yoga practice to energise our liver & gallbladder meridians (Spring meridians); we’ll use pranayama (breathing techniques) to cleanse and purify, followed by a gentle stretch for awakening and a stronger Yoga & Core sequence including hips/ pelvis and side body. After our delicious lunch, our afternoon practice will be slow, restorative and intuitive, using breath and asanas to create space in our body & mind with particular attention to the hips, side body and gentle heart opening; we’ll be concluding our day with Yoga Nidra (Yogic sleep) to feel fully relaxed, centred & present. Yoga Rural Day Retreat: WINTER- Rinse and Revitalise- FULLY BOOKED (Waiting List Only) Next Dates TBA soon!

Join Virginie on a Rural Day Retreat in Woolley, near Bath. At the heart of the winter and following the slumber of the festive holidays, we all need to get our digestive juices flowing a little and dust off the cobwebs. During our morning meditation, we will set or re-affirm our intentions for the new year ahead then use our guided morning yoga practice to re-boot & support our digestive system after the excess we may have indulged in throughout the festive season or simply in our attempt to keep warm and find comfort during the darker months; we’ll build a little heat and enliven our ‘inner fire’ through pranayama (breathing techniques), followed by a detoxing & strengthening Core Flow sequence, ‘washing & flushing’ and ‘roasting & toasting’ our body all at the same time and on all sides. After lunch, our afternoon practice will focus on stretching & creating space in our body & mind with a slower, deeper, restorative sequence, involving all the energy meridians corresponding to our vital organs, with again a focus on our digestive organs, concluding our day with Yoga Nidra (Yogic sleep) to feel fully relaxed, centred & present.

The Retreat will include a light yet nutritious vegan/vegetarian lunch and a healthy afternoon snack of clean, nutrient-rich and locally sourced food, provided by South West catering business Goodness Grazers; during lunch, you can choose to chat and relax at the barn, which offers a vast upstairs room with plenty comfy seating space, sipping on a cup of herbal tea or go for a refreshing 20 min circular country side walk, enjoying the amazing views and glorious countryside that surrounds Summerhaze Farm or simply along the lane across the village.

10:00-10:30am: Welcome Tea + snack

10:30 am-12:30 pm: Meditation, Pranayama & Core Flow Yoga Practice

2.00-3.45 pm: Restorative Yoga + Yoga Nidra

3:45-4:00: Goodbye Tea+ snack

Some yoga experience is useful but not essential.  All equipment, food & drinks (water, herbal teas) will be provided but you’re welcome to bring your own mat and water bottle if you prefer. There is no dedicated changing area but you’re welcome to use the upstairs room or toilets to change if needed. Please bring warm clothing and suitable shoes (Coat, waterproofs, walking boots or wellies etc) if you wish to go for a countryside walk.

"Be a Well Mama" Afternoon Retreat

A Health & Wellbeing Afternoon Retreat for Mothers using specific Nutrition, Holistic Therapies & Exercise.

Regardless of their fitness/health and their birth experience, all new mums will suffer from some form of: - sleep deprivation - weakened or wounded tissues & skin - stress (physiological pain, anxiety of being a new mum etc) - hormonal shift And all that for a period of up to 2 years after birth and sometimes longer, depending on their lifestyle. They receive however very little support in comparison to pregnancy & birth, while on the other hand social & media pressures are HUGE on being the perfect parent with the perfect body to match in record time!

Holistic therapist Lizzie Longhurst (Founder of 'Top to Toe Treatments, Bath & Corsham') and Perinatal Exercise Specialist Virginie Dumas (Founder of ‘Strong Mama’) have combined both experience and expertise in their fields to offer mothers that well needed support towards achieving a greater sense of well being and confidence. Whether you are a very new mum or have a toddler, join them for an informative and nurturing afternoon, exploring ways to support & heal your body on both physiological & emotional levels with specific nutrition, key exercises, massage/release techniques, reflexology and essential oils.

This workshop is delivered over 3hrs in a relaxed atmosphere with a short break and a chance of tasting nutritious juices, soothing herbal teas and testing essential oils. Mums will walk away with the knowledge & practical tools to increase their energy, boost hormone balance and moods, release stress and tension, heal and strengthen a weakened abdominal wall and pelvic floors (not just with the right exercises but also the right diet!), support breast health and breastfeeding and understand the impact of gut health on their health and that of their baby’s. They will also take home a booklet with key nutrition plans, recipes and self massage hand outs and a specific oil blend sample.

Babies are always welcome; Mums please wear comfortable clothing as there are practical elements in this workshop. Open to expectant mums and relevant for not-so-new mums too as we're looking at long term wellbeing for mums and their family.

Date:- Thursday 7th June 2018.
