Breakfast Smoothie for Mama

Let's face it: the last person to get your attention when you have a new baby or even older children is you! So breakfast for Mum is often a slice of toast and a strong coffee. A quick energy fix is what mums are usually after so they can get on with their busy day.  In my experience, both personal and professional, Mums will usually put all their efforts into making sure their baby/child gets a nutritious diet while they'll grab anything at hand - or sometimes nothing at all !- until they're exhausted and starving; once she's reached that stage, there's usually no stopping Mum! She will eat that whole packet of biscuits!

One thing is true when it comes to nutrition, if you start the day well, you'll usually carry on well. A nutritious, protein based breakfast means you'll avoid that sugar roller coaster. It means more energy, better mental focus, better milk supply if breastfeeding  and faster postnatal recovery & healing.

Here is a simple Breakfast Smoothie idea which provides essential nutrients for new mums and tastes great too!

Ingredients

  • 1 handful of raw spinach (preferably organic)
  • 1 handful of blueberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • 1 tsp of raw cocoa powder
  • 1tbs (or follow package instructions) of quality protein powder such as Bulletproof Collagen Protein or Sun Warrior Raw Protein (plant based)
  • 400ml Almond milk, unsweetened
  • 1 tbs of ground almond or a small handful of almonds or chia/flaxseeds

Blend until smooth in a NutriBullet or other blender. Et Voila! Ready to enjoy.
